Test Run - Demon Hunters - Demona

Kicking off the filler while I get the next serial prepped, another look at the Demon Hunters RPG from Margaret Weis Productions.  I've been on a minor Demon Hunters kick lately, watching both the original, where a chapter responds to the threat of Duamerthrax the Many Titled*, and the sequel, Dead Camper Lake, where evil doings are discovered at a summer camp.  So, why not dip back into the setting and the RPG?  Plus, I do plan on getting the more recent version of the game, so having a character or two to translate to the new system always helps.

Last time, I created a Bert Ernesto, TV/VCR Repairman, based on a segment in the Brotherhood Orientation Video.  That brings us to now.  The concept I have in mind is based on two traits in the game, the Asset "Branded by the Infernal" and the Complication "Unintentionally Erotic", leading to a half-succubus librarian.  Let's see how she shapes up.

Demona, as created in The Sims 3.
First thing to be done is determine the starting level.  Bert was created at the Veteran level.  This time around, I'll use Recruit.  That will mean fewer points for Attributes and Skills and no points for Traits.  Fortunately, the librarian already has one Complication coming up.  With that out of the way, let's get going.

1) Concept
Half-succubus librarian.  Really, that's it.  Okay, there's a bit more.  After all, librarians don't get recruited by the Brotherhood of the Celestial Torch everyday.  It's the half-demon part.  Not that being half-demon makes her stand out in the Brotherhood, what with the werewolves, vampires, and animated trees around.  Demona - the name given to her by her mother, the succubus - was found by a Brotherhood chapter and, once the gunfire ended, was offered a choice, join or else.  She chose to help, especially since the chapter's Cipher had taken some friendly fire and the surviving members of the Brotherhood really needed someone knowledgeable.

2) Attributes
Demona has 42 points to spend on the six Attributes.  As a librarian, she'll need her Intelligence and Alertness high, with Strength around average.  Human average is d6, to give an idea of what Demona is looking at.  The amount an attribute costs is the type of die assigned.  I'll assign a d10 for Intelligence, d8 for Alertness and Willpower, d4 for Strenght and d6 for the rest.
Attributes
Str: d4
Agi: d6
Vit: d6
Ale: d8
Int: d10
Wil: d8
3) Skills
Demona has 62 Skill points as a Brotherhood Recruit.  I'll list the skills first, then explain the reasoning.
Skills:
  Artistry d6
    Cooking d8
    Writing d8
  Athletics d4
  Discipline d6
    Concentration d8
  Influence d6
    Bureaucracy d10
    Persuasion d10
  Knowledge d6
    History d8
    Literature d10
    Occult d8
  Perception d6
    Investigation d8
  Unarmed Combat d4
Demona is the researcher.  If she gets into a fight, something has gone wrong.  But, since something going wrong is the nature of being a Demon Hunter, Demona knows some self-defense.  Her Knowledge skill is the one she'll lean on the heaviest; thus the three specialities.  She isn't a mage of any sort, but she knows people in the occult, mostly on the side that gets summoned.  The Influence specialties reflect the nature of her job and her nature.  Demona can cut through red tape, thanks to her work as a librarian.  She may want to learn how to shoot a gun at some point.

4) Complications
Normally, the Traits - Assets and Complications - would be done together, but with no Trait points available, Demona has to start with Complications, though there are a few Assets that could be useful that would have to be paid for.  Unintentionally Erotic provides six points; Demona doesn't mean to lead people on, but sometimes, words come out wrong, made worse by dressing like the sexy librarian cliché.  She also picks up Duty to the Brotherhood at the d8 level; without the Brotherhood's backing, she becomes a viable target to other demon hunters, like the Sisters of Divine Retribution, aka "the nuns with guns".  The last Complication I want for Demona is Dull Senses at d2; she wears glasses, just to add to the sexy librarian-ness.  This will give her sixteen points for Assets.

5) Assets
The first Asset Demona takes is Marked by the Infernal, as it is core to her concept.  She just needs it as a d4 to be a half-demon.  It comes with both the Eerie Presence and Memorable Complications, both at d4 each.  On the plus side, the Asset comes with Immune (fire) at d8, meaning fire doesn't affect Demona at all.  Coupled with Unintentionally Erotic, that just means she suffers clothing damage if hit by a flamethrower.  Demona can also add the trait die whenever she uses her Strength.

With the core concept dealt with, that leaves Demona twelve more points to spend.  The description for Bureaucratic Mind d6 sounds almost ideal for someone who spends a lot of time with books, allowing Demona to remember obscure details.  The next Asset, found by flipping through the chapter, is Damsel in Distress, rated at d4.  Yes, this is an Asset; it boosts any plot point spent by Demona when trying to save her bacon, including summoning the Purple Ninja, the Brotherhood's greatest warrior. unbeaten in every fight he has been in.  Plus, Demona could use the extra points when fighting a demon to know who it is and threaten the wrath of Mom on him.  The last two points will go to Allure; Demona is half-succubus.

6) Final Details
Not much left.  First, the Derived Attributes.  It's easier to just list them below.
Derived Attributes:
  Life Points (Vit+Wil): 14
  Initiative (Agi+Ale): d6+d8
  Endurance (Vit+Wil): d6+d8
  Resistance (Vit+Vit): d6+d6
Demona should be able to survive a typical hunt, moreso if she doesn't get into a fight.  Next, gear.  That will depend on the type of chapter she's in.  Ideally, she's not going to be the front line fighter.  But, if she does wind up there, then she should have something to protect her.  I'll restrict myself to Omega level gear, meant for everyone.  Demona picks up a leather jacket, a ballistic corset, and a fancy dagger that looks like it's for a ritual but is really just an old knife Mom had around.  Finally, every member of the Brotherhood of the Celestial Torch has a Brotherhood tattoo somewhere.  Keeping in mind Demona's Traits, the obvious location to put the tattoo is on the inside of her left thigh.

And that's it for Demona.  One half-succubus librarian turned demon hunter.  It might get awkward around Thanksgiving if Mom visits, but Demona is closer to her father, a not-as-good-as-he-should-be Catholic who raised her as a single parent.  He tried to instill proper values, though Demona and churches never really got along.

* Both movies give a partial list of the demon's full title.  From the script for Dead Camper Lake, available on the DVD, the demon's name is "Duamerthrax the Indestructible, Drinker of Souls, Render of Flesh, Hunter of the Living, Slayer of the Innocent, Scourge of the Righteous, Bane of the Pious, Torturer of the Nice, Killer of Peasants, Cleaver of Knights, Slicer of Queens, Dicer of Kings, Raper of Nuns, Sodomizer of Popes, Razer of Villages, Arsonist of Cities, Crumbler of Castles, Vandal of Cathedrals, Breaker of the Sphinx’s Nose, Tripper of Horses, Tipper of Cows, Slayer of Small Cute Woodland Creatures, Spreader of Plagues, Kicker of Crotches, Pisser Inner of Holy Water, Ass Wiper of Rare Paintings, Decapitator of Clowns, Disembowler of Tenors, Pimp Slapper of Bitches, Eater of Skank--"  That's where everyone has had enough.  Can't blame them.
